The 32 stitches are traditionally divided into three categories, each serving a specific purpose in the design's "architecture."

1. The Foundation: Flat Stitches

• Bakhiya (Shadow Work): The hallmark of Chikankari. The embroidery is done on the reverse side to create a beautiful shadow on the front.

3. The Masterpiece: Jali Work (Net Work)
